Vasalisa the Wise

We do not begin wise. We become wise.

Vasalisa is the archetypal figure at the center of one of the oldest stories in Clarissa Pinkola Estés' landmark work Women Who Run With the Wolves — a young girl sent alone into the dark forest to face Baba Yaga, the fearsome wild crone, armed with nothing but a small doll her dying mother pressed into her hands. The doll is her intuition. It is the only thing she needs, and for a long time, she doesn't know that.

She does not conquer the forest. She moves through it. She asks the right questions. She listens to what her hands know before her mind catches up. She returns from the darkness not broken, but illuminated — carrying fire she earned by staying present, by trusting what she could not yet see.

The Stones

Dalmatian Jasper — the pendant — is a stone of protection and grounded awareness.
